I feel like every girl has secretly dreamed of being a princess....some people are still waiting for Julie Andrews to pop by and tell them they are next in line to rule a magical kingdom called Genovia!
But seriously, princess-niche movies were super popular in the 2000s and for good reason. All the movies like that made at the time were seriously sooo good. It might be my nostalgia talking (I am a 90s baby after all!), but sometimes I put on The Princess Diaries when I'm falling asleep because it is such a comfort movie.
There have been rumors for a Princess Diaries 3 for years now. While we pray and wait for the inevitable hit movie it is destined to become, here are some fun royal-esque and nostalgic movies to watch in the meantime!

The Princess Diaries is about an awkward high schooler named Mia who is shocked to find out she is heiress to the throne in a country called Genovia after her long-last grandmother appears in her life. She must decide if she is fit to rule when she becomes of age.
The movie is actually based off the Meg Cabot book series of the same name.

There has been a lot of back and forth about whether or not The Princess Diaries 3 will actually ever happen. Many of the actors including Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews have stated they would be open to it, and there was even a script in the works at one point.
It seems many want to make the film but it's been too hard to get everyone together. In today's day and age of reboots, it's hard to tell exactly what is holding everyone up.

The Princess Diaries 2 is such a good sequel to the first movie. Mia must now get married according to Genovia's laws, but time starts running out to find her a suitor. Will she go for an arranged marriage or something else?

Ella Enchanted is about a girl named Ella who is cursed with obedience when she is a baby. She has to figure out how to break the curse before she is forced to do something awful. This is another classic Anne Hathaway movie where it is difficult to resist her charms.
"This movie is upbeat, enlivening, wholesome, and entertaining - with awesome musical talent and joyful dancing. The entire family - all ages - loved it. Definitely a Disney classic."
Enchanted is about Giselle who falls in love with a prince in a magical animated land, but is sent to the real world by an evil stepmother. It's a cute romantic comedy with delightful musical numbers.

A Cinderella Story is a classic Y2K retelling of Cinderella starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray. It's about a girl named Sam who dreams about getting into Princeton and a football star who secretly wants to give up football to pursue his own dream. This one is always iconic.

Monte Carlo is about a girl named Grace who goes on a trip to Paris with two of her friends and accidentally gets mistaken for an heiress. It's definitely the same kind of plot as The Lizzie McGuire movie, but it's super cute!

The Prince & Me is about the Prince of Denmark who decides to go to college undercover at an American university, where he meets a pre-med student named Paige.
"This movie is so great! The music is amazing and overall, this movie rocks! It's all so beautiful, the acting is fantastic, and the dresses and dancing is beautiful! A great remake of the cartoon classic!"
This is one of my favorite Disney live-action movies! It sticks to the classic Cinderella story but adds amazing costumes and visuals to make it stunning!

What A Girl Wants is one of my favorite Amanda Bynes movies. It's about an American girl who goes on a trip to find her biological dad, only to find that he is a Lord running for office in England.

13 Going On 30 is about a girl named Jenna who wishes to be 30 on her 13th birthday. She magically wakes up in her 30-year old body, but she finds out what she wished for might not be what she really wants.
"The movie is absolutely hilarious, I would watch it 85237899830 more times if I could. You should so watch it."
The Lizzie McGuire Movie is one of my absolute favorites! Lizzie McGuire is set to go on a summer trip to Rome when she gets mistaken for a wildly famous pop star named Isabella.
"I had been looking for this movie forever! Definitely not a let down and brought back some memories from my younger days. Great for girls night!"
This is an underrated Hilary Duff movie where rich, spoiled heiresses are suddenly cut off from their finances and have to cope with the real world.
Have you seen any of these classic "royal" girly movies? I just now noticed that tons of them are from 2003-2004. That was such an iconic time for girly princess-y type movies!
