The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a coming-of-age book that became a movie in 2012. Here are some of its best quotes.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is such a nostalgic coming-of-age book/film for me. The movie came out in theaters when I was in high school so it reminds me of those times. The book itself is about a high schooler named Charlie who tries to navigate fitting in amid his own personal struggles.
I think many high schoolers (and anyone who has been in high school before) can relate to a lot of the feelings Charlie experiences throughout the movie, like loneliness and anxiety.
Does anyone else feel like Perks is super nostalgic to them? Maybe it's just me because it was a big movie when I was in high school but of course any movies from 2010-2014 make me feel nostalgic!
I rewatched The Perks of Being a Wallflower for the first time in a long time yesterday. It's amazing how much more you pick up on from the movie when watching it as an adult.
Today, we're going over some of the best quotes from the movie!
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is about a high school freshman named Charlie who beings writing letters to an anonymous friend detailing his first year of high school. Charlie feels lonely but struggles to participate in class and to feel like he belongs amid struggling psychologically with the deaths of two people who were close to him. When he meets some seniors who are a little "alternative", he begins to open up and enjoy himself throughout the school year.
"Of course I loved the book. It's so much more than "young-adult coming-of-age". For me, it was deeply moving, an often gripping story, particularly at the end, and it opened a window not just into teenagers, but into life at all stages -- this while being extremely well-written and without calling attention to its well-written-ness."
The Perks of Being a Wallflower was originally a book by Stephen Chbosky. The book is semi-autobiographical, but is fiction. It was released in 1999 and became a best-selling teen novel. In 2012, it was adapted into a film directed and written by Stephen Chbosky himself. The book discusses themes of friendship, mental health, loneliness, sexuality, drugs, and more. It has been hailed as a realistic and gripping book that resonates deeply with teenagers.
As of writing this article, you can watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower on Plex TV for free, but with intermittent ads. If you don't want to have to deal with ads, you can always rent it on Amazon Prime Video for less than $5!
